Venom from the Acera bug is all that will save her. Doc’s strained voice repeats in my mind, responsibility heavy on my shoulders. Since the Fall, we’ve had no access to modern medicine. Antibiotics are scarce.

I creep along the dirt path, eyes desperate for my sister’s black and red deliverance. God, please. I beg. I submit to your will, but if you may, lead me to an Acera. My feet grow numb as the sun falls along with my hopes. Much longer, and I’ll be too late.

I feel a sharp prick on my shoulder. Something is biting me.
