"It's alive?" I whisper to her, doubting what she saw. Ever since The End, living creatures are few and far between.
"Yes! Can't you see it? Get closer..."
I paddle softly toward the barren shore, toward land we avoid, land touched by death.
“Not too close! It will fly away."
I shake my head at her.
"Land animals are a thing of the past." I say, still doubting her.
"It's not an animal of the land, but of the air! God's creation still lives!"
I creep ever forward, out of the deep. I scan the shore. I see it. Life.
